Several major football clubs have been partnering with the Chiliz and Socios blockchain platform to launch their own fan tokens. The latest partner is the giant European football league club, FC Barcelona. The Spanish club has a long history of dominating the country’s football league table. It has produced several football legends like Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Maradona.
FC Barcelona announced today on its official twitter page, with 32 million followers, that fans will soon be able to use digital currency to earn voting rights and rewards. Barcelona’s partnership with Chiliz will allow the club to interact more efficiently with its geographically dispersed fan base.
The fact that the world’s most famous football club has used the words like ‘blockchain’ and ‘tokens’ in its marketing message is a good news for the crypto industry. This will likely attract more attention to the possibilities of digital currencies and the ecosystem at large.
Binance CEO, Chanpeng Zhao, has commented on the partnership. He claimed a 32 million follower account talking about a sports token is a very nice progress towards adoption.
According to Josep Pont, FC Barcelona Board Member and Head of Commercial Area, this agreement will give Barcelona the chance to set up innovative marketing and partnership activations with a clear focus on the digital realm. He added that, this partnership will take the Barcelona club closer to its fans around the world.
The CEO and founder of Socios.com and Chiliz, Alexandre Dreyfus, also said they are very excited to welcome FC Barcelona to their platform. He claims their engagement with the massive fan base of Barcelona around the world will help strengthen the use case of this innovative technology.
